Lenses…A Powerful Optometric Tool
One of the most powerful optometric tools for guiding vision development and rehabilitation is the lens. There are different ways to prescribe lenses and prisms. A prescription may be written as a compensating Rx, a training Rx, or a therapeutic Rx.
Compensating lenses are often referred to as corrective lenses. Compensating lenses are the typical conventional prescription to help the patient see the 20/20 acuity line on the eye chart.
As an alternative, training lenses guide or direct vision. They have a stress relieving effect, decreasing symptoms or preventing other conditions. Therapeutic lenses can also relieve visual stress and decrease symptoms by restoring the organization between central and peripheral vision as well as integrate vision and balance.
